[livejournal.com profile] help_japan (also [community profile] help_japan on dreamwidth) is a multi-fandom auction to raise money for ongoing relief efforts in Japan. This auction mirrors previous fundraising efforts such as [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. The outpouring of offerings in the last few days has been pretty amazing. I'm taking the plunge and currently have a fanfic offering up (Saiyuki and others), which is located here.

If you have a moment, browse through the tagged offerings that are currently listed here for livejournal and here for dreamwidth, and consider making a bid or two... or show support by posting up a new auction offering. Every little bit helps.

Ah, it's been ages since I've posted anything here. I have hopes, now that summer is approaching, that I'll have more time for playing in LJ and can prevent things from gathering too much dust. We'll see. ^^

I did want to post this, however, while it was on my mind.

Concerning the mysterious youkai guy from chapter 5 of Saiyuki Blast--potential spoilers )

There are a million and one other things I should be doing--and so of course I am procrastinating and stumbling across random gems on the internet. ^_^

Passing info on through my little patch of grapevine. [livejournal.com profile] samsarapine and co-mods are setting up a recs community for fanfiction/fanart/videos related to the works of Minekura Kazuya. Joining the comm is easy, and each week one or more recommendations for various fan-produced works will be delivered right to the friends page of community members. Official opening of the comm will be October 3rd, but this week will feature a series of previously-posted recs by [livejournal.com profile] 7veilsphaedra. The banner says it all:

On a completely unrelated note, a week or two ago I was involved in a discussion about the complete absence of Homura and company in the main Saiyuki manga storyline. I was sure I'd seen a short manga installment that featured the trio, and went on a mad hunt for some scans, but turned up nothing.

Of course, in the middle of looking for something else, I practically tripped over scanlations of it hosted at [livejournal.com profile] flemmings fic site. The story is short (and the clothing on the Saiyuki boys gives a clue that this is a pre-Reload work), but the images are well worth paging through. :)

I know I haven't been much of a presence on Livejournal lately--but I actually have been writing. In fact, this year's assignment for the Saiyuki AU fic challenge [livejournal.com profile] 7thnight_smut has just been finalized and submitted. (Even a few days before deadline, go me!)

All entries for the challenge are initially posted anonymously, so its against the rules to talk much about individual stories at this point. Suffice to say that this particular piece really has required two full months of planning and writing, as my very patient beta can attest. :D

Posting of fics to [livejournal.com profile] 7thnight_smut will begin on August 26th. My impression is that there are a record number of participants this year, and archives of fics from previous years are available to folks who join the community, so it's definitely a place worth checking out. :D

Life is calming down a bit, so I thought I'd give a quick post after my long absence from lj. Still not really writing yet, and still only lurking intermittantly so there's lots I've missed (and am still missing). Sometime soon, I'll probably do a recs post for some fics I've managed to catch here and there.

Had to post, though, to share [livejournal.com profile] veronicacode's news from Minekura-sensei's Nitro blog about the latest with Saiyuki Reload. In addition, some scans from the latest issue of Zero Sum have been posted courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] arisu_krd. Needless to say, big spoilers here. Ah, I can't wait to see the full chapter.... ^_^

I hate the month of April. ...And it's not even really April yet.

My life has been stuck in pre-April for over two weeks now, and I just... can't keep up with everything.

I guess this post is just to let folks know that I'll (continue to) be away from LJ life until things calm down a bit elsewhere. *sigh* I'll be back again when I can.

I was looking for a website of Saiyuki fic lately, and having a terrible time locating it. A comment from [livejournal.com profile] smillaraaq was a big help in finding it again.

Since I don't want to lose it (until the day that the author dismantles the site completely), I'm posting the link for it here. I don't think there's anything above an R rating, but it's got lots of good stuff that's worth a read. :D

Have not been around at all for the past two weeks due to an abrupt and unexpected surgery.

I'd rather forget the whole experience, so I won't go into the gory details. Suffice to say there was an extended hospital visit, many, many tests, and a day and a half spent talking to experts and exploring my options, trying to find a way to avoid the inevitable.

Currently, I'm healing up at home. While I'm very glad that the procedure had a positive outcome, it's difficult to escape the follow-up frustration at the lack of stamina and mobility that goes along with recovery. *sigh*

*thud*

I can't believe that I actually made it through the month of October. Sleeping through November sounds like a pretty good idea right now. Hurray for Daylight Savings and an extra hour of rest. ^_^

I've been meaning to put up some Saiyuki recs that I've been collecting. Fluff, action, angst, and everything in between.

<><><><>

Growing by [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja (Hakkai/Yaone, PG-13)

(Poignant and sweet, IMHO the emotions in the fic feel very genuine. I really can't say too much more without giving away the punchline. And if that one appeals, the rather dark piece linked below which precedes it should also be of interest....)

Ghosts with a Negative Age by [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja (Yaone, R)

(Dark, mature themes. The author summarized it best. Sometimes the line between killing and healing is very thin.)

Rewind, Replay by [livejournal.com profile] macavitykitsune (Kubota/Tokitoh/Hakkai/Gojyo, PG)

(Crossover between Saiyuki and Wild Adapter. A conversation and a meeting.)

A Gentle Suggestion by [livejournal.com profile] macavitykitsune (Rating, G. Revealing the pairing would be telling.)

(Humor. Yep, if a DragonballZ-style martial arts contest is canon, I could totally see this little interlude happening....)

Nonattachment by [livejournal.com profile] p_zeitgeist (Kougaiji/Nii, PG-13)

(A scene between scenes. Nii and Kougaiji spar over chess.)

October and Halloween by [livejournal.com profile] nightfallrising (Gojyo/Hakkai, PG-13)

(It's still a little early for Fall, but what the heck. Reincarnation fic, where the boys are living in the 70's.)

Eidolon by [livejournal.com profile] devikun (Rating, R)

(This hurts every time I read it. An alternate ending to the "Be There" story arc.)

Senses Working Overtime by [livejournal.com profile] devikun (Hakkai/Gojyo, NC-17)

(I love this piece. I think it's one of my favorite pieces of 85 porn of all time.)

Flesh of My Flesh by [livejournal.com profile] opalmatrix (Hakkai/Gojyo, PG-13)

(It's a theoretical discussion of mpreg, and it is So. Darn. Cute. Fluff.

Lamp Tricks and Song by [livejournal.com profile] jedishampoo (Gojyo/F, Hakkai/F, F/Sanzo, Rating NC-17)

(Dark. Stars a minor character from the anime. Warnings for dub-con, non-con, mind-control. Not a happy fic, but lovely writing.)

<><><><>

There's more, but it doesn't look like I'm gonna get to it tonight. Ah, well!

This is a fly-by posting because I'm traveling at the moment and not keeping up very well with internet, but [livejournal.com profile] xantissa has written a sequel to a Saiyuki AU fic that I wrote a while ago, which is wonderful stuff and definitely worth checking out.

Dawn by [livejournal.com profile] xantissa (Rating, NC-17)

(Sequel to the [livejournal.com profile] springkink Saiyuki AU based on Joan D. Vinge's Psion. J.D. comes back.)

Also, [livejournal.com profile] smillaraaq has posted scans of all the covers from the entire series of sci-fi books that served as an original source, with some pertinent observations about artistic trends here.
